Version 1.1 is out (May 19th, 1999):
Features of the final pack:
- Four levels filled with tough action.
- Lots of new textures
- Phong shading to simulate curved surfaces
- A long quest with many different tasks to complete
- Cool effects like electrified water, BIG train crashes etc.
- Nice gory scenes (see pics)
- A truly insane storyline (read below, continues in game)
- Playable with old fashioned Pentium CPUs (>=166MHz recommended)

All F1 and screen messages are thoughts of the guy you are playing made visible to the player. Different from normal Q2, there are no
instructions "from above" in The Grapes Of Madness.
v1.1 enhancements: More gameplay fun at beginning; added grenades, shotgun ammo, less/smaller enemies.
General Hints:
On console, type ´gl_texturemode GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR´ for trilinear filter. Works with TNT, don´t
know about Voodoo1. Looks better, especially in Secret Lab (no interference mazes on walls). It´s saved when leaving Q2.
Default is ´NEAREST´ at the end instead of ´LINEAR´.

The Story
From the early years of your life you had good reason to hate humans. As a little child, you were always the one to step upon, a butt for other
bastards. Your parents and teachers told you that you should respect humans, and never ever think about
hating or even killing them. You knew of people who killed some humans like those you suffered from in
a final rage, but to you, they were just crazy, insane. You, a well educated person (you thought that at least), wanted to remain normal -
even if you were just treated worse than an animal, inferior and an ideal target for evil jokes and everybody's aggressions. But mental sanity
was like a tyrant who lived on lies and crumbled once the truth came through. As you didn't hide from the truth any longer, you
started to hate humans just like those insane people you heard of. If you just could push the big red button and nuke that human shit
away. You were waiting for a good occasion to give those fucking humans the punishment they deserved. Then the war against the Strogg
began and you had to serve at the Army´s tactical center, where all data about human weapons and defenses was stored.
It really didn't take long for you to achieve your betrayal on humanity. Billions of people died in the following Strogg assault, the survivors were
deported to death camps for industrial processing. It seemed as if you would reach your great, final goal: the annihilation of mankind.
Now, this evening, you are sitting in your hideout, an old, abandoned factory on Stroggos, and watch the Strogg information channel.
They bring the message that a few dozen humans will be kept alive for scientific purposes. The research and vivisection on them will help using
them as a resource for medicine, meat and skin products in the future. That message is a shock for you! You have to stand up and
fight again: Humans must not survive - not even as Strogg cattle !
You stand up - and hear Strogg commands, working and combat sounds. They're here to take control over your hideout and to catch you. Quickly,
you take your blaster and go out to fight. You must find the research lab - it is supposed to be near the last death camp on Stroggos. More
information can be found at the Strogg Mountain Base. You hope to get there and make sure that the humans you always hated so much will be
terminated forever.

One Comment: I started building this map unit back in 1998, and that was also the time when
I wrote this background story. When I released the final version, it was about one month after the Littleton high school killing took place, in which the killers had a background similar to this story. I did, however, not change the background story, and I still gave credit to Slayer and Rammstein, because I think games and music aren´t to blame for what happened there. In the case of the Littleton shooting, people should think about those who systematically teased and bullied Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold before and brought them to that kind of deadly hate. They´re the ones to blame, and if the two kids had shot these instead of randomly killing innocent people, I would´ve said it had been self defense. This way, it was a tragic massacre in which an originally justified anger blinded the two kids and made them do what must be called murder.
The satanic images in the game banner and in the game itself are designed to display a background of darkness, despair and hatred in the game and not to promote satanic belief in real life. To me, Satan is a product of human fantasy, and evil comes from humans, not from evil spirits or devils.
